課程概述 |
Course contents for Astrophysics II (2008 Spring semester)
1) Galactic dynamics. The motions of gas and stars in our Galaxy
and individual galaxies will be discussed. We start with the
morphological classifications of galaxies, then explain the
origin of the spiral patterns in our Galaxy and other galaxies.
There will be discussions of related topics such as the rotation
speed and the gravitational potential field of a disk galaxy
2) Interstellar medium. The atomic and molecular processes of
the gas in space will be discussed. Students will be introduced
to the concepts of cooling and heating of gas in space. We
will learn about interactions between gas and solid materials
(interstellar dust grains) in space. There will be a brief
> introduction to the heoretical aspects of star formation.
> 3) Extragalactic astronomy. Golbal characteristics of various types
> of galaxies will be discussed. The lectures will focus on
> (i) the britenss distributions and kinematics of galaxies,
> (ii) the various activities in galaxies, and (iii) the interactions
> between galaxies. Students will learn about the methods for
> distance estimation of the galaxies that are the foundations
> of the Hubble's law.
